On August 28, Youngrok Kim, Governor of Jeollanam Province, held a communication meeting in Jangheung with the executive board of the Jeonnam branch of the Construction Association of Korea. During the meeting, he listened to the current status and challenges faced by the construction industry and discussed practical, field-oriented measures to revitalize the local construction sector, such as strengthening safety management systems and providing financial support.

The event was attended by key executives, including Park Kyungjae, Chairman of the Jeonnam branch of the Construction Association of Korea; Noh Hangseop, Vice Chairman; Park Chan, Auditor; Wi Seongdae, Chair of the Ethics Committee; Jeong Chanyeong, Chair of the Special Committee for Small and Medium Construction Business Development; Kim Sunho, Standing Advisor; and Kim Hyeongmuk, Secretary-General.

During the meeting, various measures to boost the construction industry were proposed, such as expanding the eligibility for small business development funds to include construction companies and increasing the number of local social overhead capital (SOC) projects, in order to address the financial difficulties of small and medium-sized construction firms.

To respond to the downturn in the construction market, Jeollanam Province is implementing a range of policies, including support for subcontract payment guarantee fees, the establishment of a 20 billion won special management stabilization fund for the construction industry, and efforts to secure and promptly execute national funding for SOC projects.

Going forward, the province plans to actively pursue regulatory and institutional reforms that hinder the development of the construction industry, such as amending the Local Contracts Act to restrict bidding eligibility for those who forfeit successful bids by designating them as disqualified companies.

Discussions also continued regarding the prevention of serious industrial accidents, which has become a recent issue.

Jeollanam Province recently held a countermeasure meeting for a comprehensive survey of industrial safety risk facilities and is working to conduct thorough inspections of all hazardous workplaces in the region.

In relation to this, the Construction Association is also enhancing its safety management system by providing special training on the prevention of serious accidents to its member companies and strengthening support to ensure that construction sites become "zero-accident sites."

Jeollanam Province plans to use this meeting as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with the association and further expand policy support for mutual growth with the local construction industry.

Governor Kim emphasized, "The construction industry is the foundation of the local economy and a key driver of job creation. We will actively support construction companies so they can overcome difficult times and establish a foundation for sustainable growth."

He also stressed, "Safety at construction sites is the most important factor. I hope that all member companies of the Construction Association will thoroughly establish safety management systems and make every effort to prevent serious accidents."
