Live Performances and Prize Draws Await Participants

At the end of summer, the Yeongdeok Goraebul area, home to the longest stretch of sandy beach on Korea's east coast, will host the romantic night sea trekking event, the "2025 Dalbit Whale Trekking."

This event, designed to promote nighttime tourism along the Yeongdeok Blue Road, is now in its second year following last year's inaugural event. This year, the schedule has been moved up slightly, and the event will take place on Saturday, August 30.

The "Dalbit Whale Trekking" is a night sea walking event that uses the lights of fishing boats as moonlight, and its name combines the words for "moonlight" and "Goraebul" (the area name).

This year's event features both a general course and a family course, with both routes starting from the Yeongri Beach parking lot. The family course covers 4 kilometers and consists entirely of flat deck paths and sandy beach, making it ideal for walking with family. The general course is a 7-kilometer route for trekking enthusiasts, passing through Yeongri Beach, Deokcheon Beach, and the summit of Sangdaesan Mountain, before finishing at Daejin Beach.

Participants can register anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and start at their leisure. However, for the general course, considering the risks of night hiking, participants must depart by 5:30 p.m., and entry to Sangdaesan Mountain will be prohibited from 6:30 p.m. onwards.

Participants will receive a shoe bag for barefoot walking and bottled water. Upon completing the stamp certification, they will have the chance to win a variety of souvenirs in a prize draw. Those who complete the course and present a local purchase receipt (minimum 10,000 KRW, dated either the day before or the day of the event) will also receive discount vouchers for Yeongdeok craft beer and beverages. (Limited to the first 1,000 participants)

For this year's event, Yeongdeok County has opened the newly established Goraebul Ecological Trail section and significantly expanded the sandy beach course along the sea, allowing participants to fully experience the refreshing sea breeze and the sound of waves.

Along the course, participants can win food discount vouchers by taking part in events such as cornhole, shooting games, and dice-throwing games.

This year, the treasure hunt program for children on the sandy beach will be even more engaging. In addition to children's songs, a kids' DJing show will encourage active participation and physical activity among children.

At the end of the event, the finale of the romantic trekking will feature performances by Hwang Garam, the singer of "I Am a Firefly," and KCM, renowned for his emotional high notes.

A Yeongdeok County official stated, "This year, we have significantly increased the number of shuttle buses running between the starting point at Yeongri Beach and the finishing point at Daejin Beach to minimize inconvenience for participants. We have also doubled the number of safety personnel to ensure both convenience and safety for tourists, in preparation for any potential accidents."

This event is 100% on-site registration on the day of the event. Participation is free of charge, and further details can be found on the Yeongdeok County tourism portal, "Stay Yeongdeok."
