Shared Proposal Photos on Social Media
Engaged Two Years After Going Public with Their Relationship
American pop star Taylor Swift has announced her engagement to National Football League (NFL) player Travis Kelce after two years of dating. On August 27, both Kelce and Swift posted photos on their respective social media accounts, showing Kelce kneeling and proposing to Swift, as well as scenes of them holding hands while wearing engagement rings.

Along with the photos, they wrote, "Your English teacher and PE teacher are getting married," likening singer-songwriter Swift to an English teacher and athlete Kelce to a PE teacher. Each of their posts received over 17 million 'likes' within just three hours. Media outlets in the United States and around the world quickly reported on what they called the "engagement of the century." The Associated Press described it as "a fairy-tale ending to a love story that, over two years, has excited and captivated millions worldwide, especially the pop star's massive and passionate fandom, the Swifties."
Kelce is a key player for the Kansas City Chiefs, the powerhouse team that has reached the NFL Super Bowl (the championship game) five times in the past six seasons. He was already a popular star, but, according to the New York Times, his relationship with Swift has taken his popularity to a whole new level. The engagement of Kelce and Swift comes two years after they went public with their relationship in September 2023. Their romance began in July 2023 when Kelce publicly expressed his desire to meet Swift on a podcast.
Swift's Engagement News Makes Headlines at the White House
Swift officially confirmed their relationship by appearing at the stadium to support Kelce during his games. Since going public, she has attended most of the Kansas City home games in person. Notably, at last year's Super Bowl between Kansas City and the San Francisco 49ers, they created what was called the "love story of the century." The night before the game, Swift performed a concert in Tokyo, Japan, on the other side of the world. As soon as her show ended, she boarded a private jet and arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the Super Bowl was held, just two hours before kickoff.

It was described as the "power of love" overcoming a 17-hour time difference and a distance of 8,900 kilometers. After leading Kansas City to a Super Bowl championship, Kelce celebrated with a passionate kiss with Swift in front of a global audience. At the time, sports betting sites even offered wagers on whether he would propose.
Swift's engagement news became a hot topic at the White House that day. During the last presidential election, President Donald Trump repeatedly expressed his displeasure toward Swift after she publicly supported Democratic candidate and former Vice President Kamala Harris. However, on this day, he offered an uncharacteristically warm remark. When a reporter asked about Swift's engagement during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, President Trump replied, "Well, he's a very fine man. I think she's a wonderful person, too. So I wish them all the best."
