The driving simulator is a state-of-the-art device that mathematically and precisely recreates real driving environments in a virtual space. It allows vehicle specifications and settings to be applied as if operating on an actual road. Through this, various driving conditions can be created, enabling tests to verify acceleration performance, steering response, braking power, and more.

Nexen Tire expects that the introduction of the driving simulator will minimize unnecessary trial and error, reduce real vehicle tests and prototype production, and thereby accelerate technological innovation while achieving cost savings.

By replacing real vehicle driving tests, which require significant time and cost, with virtual environments, and by evaluating products under various conditions within limited space, more precise tire development is possible. The company anticipates that it will be able to meet the performance standards for original equipment (OE) tires required by automakers more quickly and accurately.

In particular, Nexen Tire expects to further strengthen collaboration with partners in the development of tires for new concept vehicles and high-performance vehicles. As the proportion of prototype production and real vehicle testing decreases, carbon emissions are also expected to be reduced, contributing to the practice of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.

Starting with the introduction of the driving simulator, Nexen Tire plans to gradually establish a 'full virtual development process' that combines finite element analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The company’s mid-to-long-term goal is to replace all tests with simulations.

A Nexen Tire representative said, "The establishment of the driving simulator is a strategic investment to proactively respond to the shift toward virtual development of automobiles and tires and to lead the future mobility industry," adding, "By integrating virtual reality and artificial intelligence, we will enhance the efficiency and precision of research and development, contribute to ESG management, and actively strengthen our global competitiveness."
