Kim Taeheum Stresses "Expanding Economic and Cultural Exchange"
Mayor Gong Zheng Proposes Cooperation in Investment, Science and Technology, and Youth Exchange
Chungnam Province has begun efforts to expand cooperation with Shanghai, China's largest economic city, in advanced industries, culture, and tourism.
According to the province on August 26, Governor Kim Taeheum of Chungnam met with Mayor Gong Zheng of Shanghai at Shanghai City Hall that day. They agreed to strengthen exchange and cooperation in various fields, including economic and trade investment, education and science and technology, as well as culture and tourism.
Governor Kim mentioned the Chungnam China Office, which opened the previous day, and said, "I would like to thank Shanghai for its cooperation," while requesting that a Shanghai delegation and citizens visit the Taean International Horticultural Healing Expo next year.
He continued, "Chungnam is a hub for advanced industries such as semiconductors, displays, batteries, and automobiles, while Shanghai is a global center for finance and trade," emphasizing that "there is great potential for cooperation between the two sides."
Mayor Gong explained Shanghai's five major development goals (as an international center for economy, finance, trade, shipping, and scientific and technological innovation) and noted, "Korean tourists rank first among foreign visitors to Shanghai," also proposing to strengthen youth cultural and tourism exchanges.
In response, Governor Kim said, "We will actively expand exchanges between Chungnam and Shanghai, a city with deep ties to independence activists such as Yun Bonggil and Kim Gu."
Before the meeting, Governor Kim visited the Huawei autonomous vehicle exhibition hall to observe China's advanced technology, and afterward, he will travel to Vietnam to continue export consultations and exchange activities.
