Suncheon City Eoullim Club, led by Lee Soonuk and affiliated with the Suncheon Disabled Sports Association in Jeollanam-do, has been selected as the nation's first designated sports club for people with disabilities by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This designation is the first project implemented since the enactment of the Sports Club Act. After passing the final review last month, Suncheon City Eoullim Club will receive annual operating support of 29 million won for three years, until July 2028.
The Eoullim Club will be based at the Suncheon City Eoullim Sports Center and plans to offer customized recreational sports programs that people with and without disabilities can enjoy together, focusing on three sports: badminton, table tennis, and bowling.
On the 25th, Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu stated, "It is a very meaningful achievement that, following the opening of the Eoullim Sports Center, we have been selected as the nation's first designated sports club for people with disabilities. We will continue to provide strong support so that people with and without disabilities can come together to create a healthy and happy leisure culture."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism selected five clubs nationwide this year as designated sports clubs for people with disabilities, and Suncheon City Eoullim Club holds special significance as the very first case nationwide.
