Hanam Proposes Bus Route Adjustments and Expansion of "Ddareungi" to Seoul
Mayor Lee Hyunjae: "A Comprehensive Transportation Plan Is Needed for Seoul and Hanam"
Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon: "We Will Actively Review Measures to Minimize Commuter Inconvenience"
On August 22, Lee Hyunjae, Mayor of Hanam, met with Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon to propose key transportation issues, including: the extension of the Wirye Sinsa Line to Hanam; connecting Gam-il and Wirye city bus No. 31 to Macheon Station; extending Seoul city bus routes; and expanding the Seoul public bicycle "Ddareungi" service in Wirye New Town.

This proposal was prompted by the recent implementation, from August 9, of the Climate Companion Card in Hanam, which made it possible to use the card in both Hanam and Seoul. As a result, it was deemed necessary to establish a "METRO Seoul Metropolitan Area Comprehensive Transportation Plan" between the two cities, which share a common living sphere.
First, Mayor Lee requested the extension of the Wirye Sinsa Line to Hanam. He stated, "Residents of Wirye Hanam have also contributed to the metropolitan transportation plan fund, but it is difficult for them to actually use the service." He called for the extension to be included as a conditional second phase in the "Second Seoul Metropolitan Urban Rail Network Construction Plan (Amended)," which is currently being converted from a private investment project to a public project.
He also emphasized that "if the extension to Hanam is realized, Seoul residents will also benefit from easier access to Namhansanseong, enjoying improved transportation welfare."
Next, in line with the expanded use of the Climate Companion Card, Mayor Lee proposed adjustments to bus routes connecting Hanam and Seoul.
He requested that Hanam city bus No. 31 be routed via Macheon Station, Seoul city bus No. 3317 be extended to the Wirye district, and Seoul city bus No. 3318 be extended to the Misa and Gam-il districts.
Third, in preparation for the opening of the "Wirye Tram" scheduled for May 2026, Mayor Lee suggested expanding the coverage of Seoul's public bicycle "Ddareungi" service to include the Wirye Hanam area as part of integrated transportation measures.
Mayor Lee stated, "Hanam is home to key Seoul living infrastructure facilities such as the Paldang metropolitan water supply, Gam-il East Seoul Power Plant, and the Wirye Combined Heat and Power Plant. In addition, we have cooperated so that Songpa residents can use the Hanam Library in Wirye New Town, thus contributing to Seoul. I ask for Seoul's proactive consideration of these transportation issues."
Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon responded, "Seoul believes that the transportation inconveniences of Gyeonggi-do residents commuting to Seoul should also be minimized," adding, "We will actively review the transportation issues raised by Hanam."
