Agreement Signed with KAIST, Seoul National University, POSTECH, Korea University, and Hanyang University
Naver Cloud announced on the 22nd that it held a consortium agreement ceremony for industry-academic cooperation with five universities-Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Seoul National University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Korea University, and Hanyang University-as part of the independent AI foundation model (National AI) project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
At the agreement ceremony, Sung Nakho, Head of Hyperscale Technology at Naver Cloud and general manager of the project, explained the direction of the initiative and discussed plans for operating industry-academic cooperation.

Through the 'Industry-Academic Cooperation Residency Program,' Naver Cloud plans to provide an environment for 30 to 40 master's and doctoral students from consortium member universities to focus solely on research, while jointly promoting the development and applied research of AI models.
Through this, the company aims to offer students hands-on experience in model development within real industry settings, while providing companies with opportunities to discover and secure outstanding talent at an early stage, thereby establishing a virtuous cycle for mutual growth between academia and industry.
Naver Cloud emphasized that this agreement is significant as it represents a two-way growth model, where AI talent can grow in corporate environments and academic research can expand into industry.
The global video multimodal AI startup Twelve Labs is also participating in this consortium. Naver Cloud plans to combine Twelve Labs' vision AI capabilities with its own voice and language-based technologies.
Sung stated, "This consortium will serve as an important foundation for companies and academia to combine their respective strengths, foster future AI talent, and enhance both national technological sovereignty and global competitiveness. Through this, we will further refine our efforts to go beyond simple technology development and deliver AI experiences that everyone in the country can truly feel."
