Shincheonji Church of Jesus Makes Impressive Debut
Five Intensive Training Camps Boost Teamwork and Performance Quality
The 'NHE Wind Orchestra' clinched the top prize in the general division at the 49th Korea Wind Music Competition, achieving a major feat in its first official public appearance since its founding.
The achievements of the orchestra members, founded by the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, were attributed to their musical capabilities, consistent practice, and strong teamwork.
The orchestra immediately earned the honor of a major award in its first official performance, which the music community agreed demonstrated its potential and promise.
Launched in 1976 and now in its 49th year, the Korea Wind Music Competition is the nation’s most prestigious wind music contest. It is hosted by the Korea Wind Music Association and organized by the Yeoju Sejong Cultural Tourism Foundation. The competition was held from August 14 to 17 at the Sejong Gugakdang in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province. Fifty teams and over 2,500 participants from across the country competed fiercely.
The NHE Wind Orchestra participated in the special and general divisions on the second day of the competition, August 15, performing the march "Alte Kameraden" and the free-choice piece "Persis." By contrasting a powerful classical march with a modern concert overture, they showcased precise ensemble skills and rich interpretive ability, earning high praise from both the audience and the judges.
To prepare for this stage, all 60 members gathered every Saturday for practice since March and held five intensive training camps to perfect their performance. Their steady efforts paid off, resulting in the valuable achievement of winning the top prize in the general division at their debut.
Park Sanggun, conductor of the NHE Wind Orchestra, said, "I am proud of our members for mastering such challenging pieces in their very first competition," adding, "We will build on this national achievement to grow into an orchestra that performs on the world stage."
The NHE Wind Orchestra, composed of woodwinds, brass, and percussion, has embarked on full-scale public activities this year, expressing 'Heavenly Culture' through music with the grand and powerful sound unique to a wind orchestra.
