This Korea-Japan summit will proceed in the order of a small-group meeting followed by an expanded meeting. After the summit, the two leaders also plan to make a joint press announcement.

The talks are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including measures for economic and security cooperation between the two countries. With the restructuring of trade order led by the U.S. Trump administration gaining momentum, the two sides are likely to focus on discussing joint response strategies. There is also interest in how sensitive issues, such as historical disputes between Korea and Japan and the import of Japanese seafood, will be addressed.

Security issues based on Korea-Japan relations as well as trilateral cooperation among Korea, the U.S., and Japan are also key agenda items. Some observers suggest that the joint press statement may include language reflecting a commitment to uphold the historical perspectives demonstrated by previous administrations, including the 1998 Kim Dae-jung-Obuchi Joint Declaration.
