Prior Preparation of Vehicle and Weapon to Track the Victim
Reviewing Public Disclosure of Identity After Detention
The investigation has revealed that the man in his 30s, the suspect in the murder of a woman in the underground parking lot of an officetel in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, meticulously planned the crime out of resentment after the victim reported him to the police.
According to Yonhap News on August 23, the Yongin Western Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced plans to request an arrest warrant for suspect A on charges of retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
On the 21st, suspect A, who killed a woman in her 30s in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and fled, was urgently arrested in a mountain area in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, and was transferred to Yongin Western Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 22nd. Yonhap News
At around 2:40 to 2:50 a.m. on the 21st, A is accused of stabbing and killing B, a woman in her 30s of Chinese nationality whom he knew, multiple times with a weapon he had prepared in advance in the underground parking lot of an officetel in Suji-gu, Yongin. Immediately after the crime, A used a rental car to travel to Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, abandoned the vehicle in front of a school at around 4 a.m. the same day, and fled into a mountain area. Police, after a search using scent-detection dogs, apprehended A at 8:48 a.m. on the 22nd, about 30 hours after the incident. The location where A was arrested was approximately 2 kilometers from where the vehicle was found.
Prior Preparation of Vehicle and Weapon for Locating the Victim
During the transfer to the police station, A admitted to the charges, stating, "It is true that I killed her."
The police investigation found that A was a customer at the store where B worked, and they had known each other for several years. However, in May, B reported to the police that she had been victimized by A, which led to a conflict. A used various methods to track B's whereabouts, eventually locating her, and prepared a vehicle and weapon in advance to carry out the crime.
The police believe that A, after being investigated by the police due to B's report, harbored resentment and meticulously planned and executed the crime. As a result, they have decided to apply the charge of retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, which carries a harsher penalty than ordinary murder under the Criminal Act. While murder is punishable by death, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for at least five years, retaliatory murder under the special law is punishable by death, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for at least ten years, making the sentence more severe.
Review of Public Disclosure of Identity After Detention
After completing the first round of questioning, the police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A as soon as the investigation into whether he stalked the victim and the overall circumstances of the incident is complete. The police will consider convening a committee to review the public disclosure of A's identity and conducting a psychopathy test after the decision on the issuance of the arrest warrant is made.
