Four Courses Available Through October
Participation Is Free
Songpa-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seo Kangseok) will operate four courses of the “Nighttime Guided Tour of the Hanseong Baekje Royal Road” program through October this year.
This program was created by expanding the daytime guided tours that have been held since 2016, allowing participants to explore Hanseong Baekje historical sites at dusk with a cultural tourism guide. During a four-month pilot run last year, a total of 461 people participated, and in particular, the number of nighttime participants in July and August more than doubled compared to the daytime, receiving an enthusiastic response.
Visitors who came to Samjeondo Monument are listening to the guide's explanation. Provided by Songpa-gu.
As a result, the district has made the nighttime program a regular offering, operating it since March this year. The program provides a unique experience of walking through ancient sites under lighting and moonlight, including Pungnap-dong Earthen Fortress, which was equipped with nighttime lighting last year. The tours are held every Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. (5 p.m. in March and October) until October.
The “Hanseong Baekje Royal Road” consists of four courses: Pungnap-dong Earthen Fortress Road, Mongchon Earthen Fortress Road, Hanseong Baekje Museum Road, and Seokchon-dong Ancient Tombs Road. The courses are designed to allow visitors to enjoy not only the representative relics of the Hanseong Baekje era, such as Pungnap-dong Earthen Fortress, Mongchon Earthen Fortress, Seokchon-dong Ancient Tombs, and Bangi-dong Ancient Tombs, but also Songpa’s modern landmarks, including Lotte World Tower and the Sports Complex.
Each course takes about two hours, and a professional guide provides customized explanations for up to 10 participants at a time, enhancing safety and engagement. Reservations can be made up to seven days in advance through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website or by calling the Songpa-gu Tourism Promotion Division (02-2147-2110). Participation is free of charge, and children of elementary school age or younger must be accompanied by a guardian.
Seo Kangseok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I hope more people will enjoy the diverse charms of Songpa-gu through the regularly scheduled Hanseong Baekje Royal Road nighttime tours,” and added, “We will continue to work on discovering a variety of tourism resources so that residents can correctly understand and deeply appreciate the region’s historical and cultural heritage.”
