Milkis Exports to Indonesia Surge 318% as of July
Lotte Chilsung Beverage is accelerating its entry into the Indonesian market, led by its carbonated drink "Milkis."
On August 22, Lotte Chilsung Beverage announced that it has secured a local distribution network by launching "Milkis" at Indomaret, a convenience store chain in Indonesia. Indomaret is a leading convenience store brand in Indonesia with locations nationwide and serves as a major local distribution channel, offering more than 5,000 different products.
Lotte Chilsung Beverage began rolling out Milkis at Indomaret in mid-July and has expanded the number of stores carrying the product in earnest since August. Currently, three varieties-Milkis Original, Strawberry, and Melon-are sold at approximately 23,000 Indomaret stores.
As part of its localization strategy, Lotte Chilsung Beverage revamped the product packaging earlier this year, changing the label from English to Indonesian. The company also obtained Halal certification through the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) and the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF). Based on these efforts, Milkis was also introduced to Indonesian convenience store chains Lawson and Family Mart in April.
Thanks to its localization strategy, Lotte Chilsung Beverage's Milkis exports to Indonesia grew by about 318% year-on-year as of July. During the same period, total exports to Southeast Asia also increased by 124%.
The company plans to expand further next year by entering Alfamart, another major convenience store chain that, together with Indomaret, dominates the Indonesian market.
A Lotte Chilsung Beverage representative stated, "Milkis, with its unique carbonated milk concept, can bring something new to the local market. Starting with its launch at Indomaret, we aim to establish Milkis as a leading K-beverage in Indonesia."
