Chu Kyungho Named as Suspect in Warrant
Special Investigation Team Raids National Assembly Secretariat
First Compulsory Investigation into Secretariat Over Martial Law Obstruction Allegations
In the early morning of December 4 last year, after the National Assembly passed a resolution demanding the lifting of martial law, Democratic Party of Korea members stayed overnight in the plenary hall, keeping watch.
The special investigation team on insurrection, led by Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok, which is currently investigating suspicions of obstruction of the National Assembly's resolution to lift martial law, conducted a search and seizure of the National Assembly Secretariat on August 21.
It has been confirmed that the special investigation team raided the National Assembly Secretariat in Yeouido, Seoul, on this day to secure materials such as CCTV footage from the main building of the National Assembly. This is the first time the special investigation team has initiated a compulsory investigation into the National Assembly Secretariat.
It was confirmed that the search and seizure warrant listed former People Power Party floor leader Chu Kyungho as a suspect in connection with the alleged obstruction of the National Assembly's resolution to lift martial law.
The special investigation team is currently investigating suspicions that, after the declaration of martial law on December 3 last year, then-floor leader Chu Kyungho and others, at the request of former President Yoon Sukyeol's side, repeatedly changed the location of the party's general assembly in order to prevent other lawmakers from participating in the vote to lift martial law.
In addition, regarding suspicions that former President Yoon's side instructed Shin Hyeshik, CEO of the conservative YouTube channel 'Shinuihansu,' to block the execution of an arrest warrant, the special investigation team plans to monitor the police investigation and, if necessary, request the transfer of relevant investigative materials.
