The "Bongo-Gyeongmyeong Road Construction Project," a key north-south arterial road connecting the Geomdan area in northern Incheon with the Songdo area in the south, has been selected as a target for the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
This road, which will link Hyoseong-dong in Gyeyang-gu to Gongchon-dong in Seo-gu, will have a total length of 2.9 km and four lanes in both directions. The total project cost is estimated at 213.5 billion KRW (101.1 billion KRW from the national budget and 112.4 billion KRW from the local budget). Construction is scheduled to begin next year, with completion targeted for 2032. The project includes one tunnel (1.5 km) and one bridge (0.5 km).
The preliminary feasibility analysis showed a benefit-cost (B/C) ratio of 1.42, exceeding the project implementation standard of 1.0. It is also expected to generate 501 billion KRW in production inducement effects during the construction and operation phases.
The city expects that once the road is built, it will greatly help disperse traffic generated from large-scale development areas such as Geomdan, Gyeyang, Hyoseong in northern Incheon, and Daejang District in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, which have a planned population of 282,000. This project is also included in the "2040 Incheon Urban Master Plan" under the name "Jungbu Arterial Road."
An official from Incheon City stated, "The Bongo-Gyeongmyeong Road will complete the approximately 35 km north-south arterial axis of Incheon's urban area by connecting the currently disconnected 2.9 km section of the city's north-south arterial roads. This will move the city away from an east-west oriented transportation network and make a significant contribution to balanced urban development and the dispersal of traffic."
