Paju City in Gyeonggi Province is conducting regular SMS campaigns targeting local restaurants and lodging businesses to prevent the recent surge in reservation no-shows.
This measure aims to minimize the economic losses suffered by business owners due to reservation no-shows. The city sends out informational messages around weekends each month, when the likelihood of no-shows is particularly high.
The SMS messages include information about the "10% Deposit When Making a Reservation" campaign, examples of reservation no-show scams, and instructions on how to report such incidents. There have been confirmed cases where these messages have helped prevent losses.
In addition, Paju City is running reservation no-show prevention videos through various channels, including the Paju City Hall website, the Paju Restaurant Association website, local electronic billboards, and the bus information system, as part of a multifaceted promotional effort.
The city has also established a close cooperation system with the Paju Police Station, enabling immediate reporting to the police when suspected reservation no-show scams occur, so that business owners can receive assistance in preventing losses.
Jang Yeonhee, head of the Hygiene Division, stated, "Reservation no-shows are a serious problem that cause significant harm to small business owners. We will do our best to foster a healthy reservation culture through public awareness and ongoing promotional activities."
