The bereaved families sent gifts of appreciation and hung banners, expressing their thanks by saying, "We were able to bid a proper farewell to our loved ones."
On August 18, anonymous parcels arrived at the administrative welfare centers in Jojeong-myeon and Sang-myeon, Gapyeong County. Inside were boxes of cookies, which, upon confirmation, were found to have been sent by the sister of the woman who died at the Miley Campground.
On the outside of the cookie boxes, sent by "the bereaved families of Miley Campground," was written, "Thanks to your warm help, we were able to complete the funeral safely. We are deeply grateful from the bottom of our hearts."
In the early morning of July 20, at a campground in Miley, Jojeong-myeon, a tragedy occurred when torrential rains caused the stream to overflow, resulting in the deaths of three out of four family members. The father and youngest son were found deceased on July 20 and 24, respectively, and the mother was found on August 1. The eldest son, a high school student, suffered serious injuries and was treated at the hospital. Immediately after the tragic accident, Gapyeong County established a dedicated support system by department to stay by the side of the bereaved families.
First, the Departments of Local Administration and Tourism connected with the bereaved families one-on-one from the moment of the accident, visiting the site daily to explain the search situation and personally taking care of the families' accommodation and meals. They guided the families through the search process and shared the anxious times with them during their deep grief.
The administrative welfare centers in Jojeong-myeon and Sang-myeon provided additional equipment so that the families could directly search specific areas they wished. Respecting the desperate hope that their loved ones might still be found, they created practical conditions for the search.
Additionally, the Employment Policy Department took on the role of comprehensive support for the victims' families, meticulously assisting with medical expenses for the injured and guiding them through the funeral procedures. Especially as the bereaved families faced confusion due to the sudden accident, the department handled administrative procedures on their behalf, serving as a practical pillar of support.

In particular, the family and acquaintances of the late Kim Youngcheol, a resident of Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong County, expressed their gratitude by hanging a separate banner in front of the Gapyeong County Office. The deceased was found near Cheongpyeong Bridge on August 9, after having gone missing on July 20.
The banner hung by the family and acquaintances read, "Thank you. We are grateful. We thank the firefighters, police officers, public officials, volunteer firefighters, and local residents who worked day and night so that Kim Youngcheol could return to us. We welcomed Youngcheol so that he could go to a better place. Thank you."
Seo Taewon, Governor of Gapyeong County, said, "I am grateful to the bereaved families who, even in deep sorrow, did not forget Gapyeong County and expressed their appreciation, and I once again offer my deepest condolences. Although we cannot undo the past tragedy, we will continue to provide every possible administrative support so that the wounds of the bereaved families may heal as soon as possible."
