On August 21, Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jeong Cheolwon) announced that it had held a capacity-building training session on the prevention and control of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) for local poultry farmers on the 20th.

This training was organized to raise awareness of biosecurity among poultry farmers and prevent recurrence following an outbreak of highly pathogenic AI in Damyang in January. About 30 poultry farmers attended the session, which featured Son Youngho, CEO of livestock quarantine specialist company Banseok LTC, as the invited lecturer.

The lecture focused on practical measures that can be immediately implemented on site, including the causes and recent trends of AI outbreaks, proactive biosecurity measures at the farm level, management of farm entry and livestock facilities, and the use of disinfection and quarantine equipment.

A county official stated, "We hope this training will serve as an opportunity to elevate the biosecurity standards of poultry farms," and urged, "We ask that farmers take responsibility and manage biosecurity on the front lines themselves."

Meanwhile, the county plans to continue regular biosecurity training and on-site inspections in order to maintain a clean Damyang and ensure a safe livestock environment.
