This camp was hosted by Gijang County and organized by Busan University of Foreign Studies. It was a residential program for elementary and middle school students, featuring native English-speaking instructors.
This year, the eligibility was expanded from the previous range of 4th to 6th grade elementary students and 1st grade middle school students to include some 2nd grade middle school students as well.
The middle school program was held over 11 days and 10 nights from July 23 to August 2, while the elementary school program ran three separate 6-day, 5-night sessions from July 28 to August 16. A total of 501 students completed the program.
Participants were grouped into teams of 10 to 12 students based on a level test and took part in a variety of activities, including English proficiency classes, English diary writing, role-playing, English quiz tournaments, and English events. The camp was evaluated positively for moving away from rote learning to experiential learning, allowing students to overcome their fear of English and build confidence.
Governor Jeong Jongbok said, "I am most pleased that the students completed the camp in good health despite the ongoing heat wave," adding, "I hope this experience will serve as a foundation for them to grow into global talents."
