On the 19th, Jeollanamdo Governor Kim Youngrok emphasized the formation of a comprehensive support task force for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, making every effort to secure national funding as the government's budget proposal enters its final stages, and strengthening on-site communication to find solutions for overcoming the crisis in the eastern region's petrochemical and steel industries.

At a policy meeting with department heads held in the Seojaepil Room at the provincial office that morning, Governor Kim stated, "The 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo is just over a year away. As this event is highly anticipated, following the 2012 Yeosu World Expo, I instruct you to form a comprehensive support task force led by the Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs, with participation from all relevant departments, to ensure thorough preparation."

Regarding the securing of national funds, he said, "Although the Ministry of Economy and Finance is in the final stages of preparing the government budget proposal, there is still room for further effort. We need to identify any remaining issues once again and make every possible effort, with the Vice Governor for Economic Affairs at the center."

He also urged, "To overcome the crisis in the eastern region's petrochemical and steel industries, we need to further reinforce the plans for what must be done this year and next year. Let's strengthen communication with the Yeosu Industrial Complex on-site to determine exactly what is needed and find the right solutions."

Governor Kim added, "The 2025 Jeonnam International Ink Biennale, which opens on the 30th, and the 2025 Namdo International Gourmet Industry Expo in October are major events that will showcase Jeonnam's appeal to the world. Let's maximize their impact through joint promotional marketing that encompasses related travel packages such as the Namdo Han Bakkwi Tour and the Korea Tourism Organization's Accommodation Sale Festa."
