A Total of 2,678 Cases, 384 Million Won in Overdue Fines
"Even Small Overdue Amounts Can Become a Heavy Burden If Left Unpaid"
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on August 19 that it will send Kakao AlimTalk notifications on August 21 to individuals with overdue fines for violations of disabled parking zones and the Eco-Friendly Vehicle Act.
The total number of notifications to be sent is 2,678, with the total amount of overdue fines amounting to approximately 384 million won. Through these messages, the city will inform recipients of their outstanding fines and the accumulated additional charges, and will encourage early payment.
When a fine is overdue, an additional charge of 3% of the overdue amount is imposed in the first month. After that, an extra 1.2% is added each month, accumulating for up to 60 months.
For example, if a 100,000 won fine remains unpaid for five years, the additional charges can reach 75,000 won, making the final payment amount 175,000 won. Even small overdue amounts can become a significant burden over time, so it is important to pay within the deadline.
A city official stated, "If payment is delayed, the burden of additional charges increases rapidly, and if the overdue period becomes long-term, administrative actions such as asset seizure may follow. To avoid disadvantages due to overdue payments, we strongly urge you to pay within the deadline. For any questions regarding payment, please contact the Collection Division at any time."
The city provides detailed information through KakaoTalk notifications, including the overdue status, additional charges, payment deadlines, and payment methods. Payments can be made conveniently through various channels such as Wetax, Internet Giro, ARS, and virtual accounts.
Going forward, the city plans to continue regular notifications and payment reminders to reduce citizens' financial burden, enhance payment convenience, and foster a healthy tax payment culture.
