Slope Reinforcement to Prevent Rockfalls
and Irrigation Canal Installation
Jindo County in South Jeolla Province has secured 1.6 billion won in special government grants to enhance resident safety and improve local living conditions.
The county announced on the 19th that it will use the grants to implement two projects: 1.2 billion won for slope reinforcement to prevent rockfalls at Dumokjae in Gogun-myeon, and 400 million won for the construction of an irrigation canal in the Suyu district of Jindo-eup.
In particular, the Dumokjae road section in Gogun-myeon is a major thoroughfare with heavy traffic, yet has been continuously cited as a risk zone for rockfall accidents due to its steep slopes and weak ground conditions.
During periods of heavy rainfall, soil runoff has posed additional threats to the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians. The new project is expected to strengthen safety measures, including the installation of rockfall prevention facilities.
Additionally, the Suyu district of Jindo-eup has frequently experienced inconvenience for farmers due to a lack of agricultural water during droughts. The secured budget will be used to install an irrigation canal, supporting farming activities and improving living conditions, with disaster prevention benefits also anticipated.
Kim Heesu, Governor of Jindo County, stated, "Securing this special grant is a testament to Jindo County's strong commitment to protecting residents' safety and improving living conditions," adding, "We will respond swiftly and transparently to residents' needs to create a safer local community."
Governor Kim also expressed his gratitude to National Assembly member Park Ji-won for his significant assistance in securing the special grant, and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing these projects.
