Moon Da-hye Cleared of Charity Fund Embezzlement Allegations... Police Say "No Intent to Embezzle" Yonhap News Agency

The Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul announced on August 18 that it had decided not to refer Moon to the prosecution on charges of fraud and occupational embezzlement.

Moon had been accused of not donating the funds raised after holding a charity bazaar-style exhibition at her gallery in December 2022.

It was reported that Moon promoted the event by stating that proceeds from the auction of works donated by more than 30 artists would be given to a nonprofit foundation. In October of last year, police received a complaint that the funds had not been delivered to the foundation and subsequently launched an investigation.

During the police questioning, Moon reportedly stated that she did not donate the money because the amount was smaller than expected and that she simply forgot about it due to being busy.

The police reviewed Moon's financial records and confirmed that the funds had not been withdrawn and remained in the account designated for the charity exhibition.

The police explained their decision not to refer the case by stating, "Although the donation was not ultimately made, the charity exhibition was organized with the intention of making a donation," and, "Since the proceeds were not used for personal purposes, we determined there was no intent to embezzle."
