No Suspicious Findings After Bomb Threat Report at Suwon Fast Food Restaurant

Police found nothing unusual after searching a fast-food restaurant building in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, following a report of an explosive device.

At approximately 1:07 p.m. on August 17, a report was filed about an explosive device being planted in a nine-story commercial building in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, where a fast-food restaurant is located. Police responded to the scene, and customers were evacuated in an emergency situation.

The report was made by a netizen who saw a post on social media. The post stated, "The delivery is slow and the staff are unfriendly. I came to plant an explosive device."

Police deployed a special operations unit and thoroughly searched the interior of the fast-food restaurant but did not find any explosives. After determining there was no further danger, the situation was resolved at around 2:50 p.m., approximately one hour and forty minutes after the initial report.

The building in question has nine floors above ground and three basement levels, housing facilities such as hospitals and private academies. During the search, about 400 people, including patients and students, evacuated the building and experienced inconvenience.

Police have secured a screenshot of the threatening post uploaded to social media and are tracking down the author. If apprehended, the individual will be charged with public intimidation.

Under the Criminal Act, the charge of public intimidation applies when threats are made to harm the life or physical safety of an unspecified number of people. It is punishable by up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.
