On August 14, Hyundai Motor and Kia announced that they had signed a business agreement with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority at the Hyundai Motor Gangnamdaero headquarters to drive mobility innovation based on public transportation data.

The two companies will utilize advanced mobility technologies and data, including artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance the sustainability of regions facing population decline. In particular, they plan to share the operational expertise and data from Hyundai Motor and Kia’s demand-responsive transport solution, 'Shucle,' as well as the Korea Transportation Safety Authority’s experience in public transportation projects, management systems, and data.

They intend to analyze local transportation conditions to develop and pilot public transportation models. Based on the results, they will propose policies and systems to help build regional mobility ecosystems, with the goal of improving mobility for socially disadvantaged groups.

Furthermore, this collaboration will extend to the long-term development of a future mobility ecosystem.

In March, Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to establish the future mobility ecosystem 'NUMA (Next Urban Mobility Alliance)' at its software vision event 'PLEOS 25,' aiming to address social and environmental issues and build sustainable future cities.

This partnership is also part of the NUMA initiative. Hyundai Motor Group plans to collaborate with a wide range of partners-including public institutions, corporations, startups, universities, and research organizations-to address social challenges such as supporting transportation-disadvantaged groups, responding to regional depopulation, and tackling the climate crisis.

As part of the NUMA initiative, Hyundai Motor and Kia launched a pilot project in May in partnership with Walkerhill Hotel & Resort, applying the Shucle platform to the hotel’s internal and external shuttle services. Based on the data collected and the validated technology from this project, they plan to launch specialized initiatives to improve mobility for local residents and transportation-disadvantaged groups in the area surrounding the hotel.

Kim Sooyoung, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor and Kia Mobility Business Division, stated, "We will take the lead in developing innovative models in the public transportation sector and advancing future mobility technologies." He added, "By accelerating continuous data integration and joint research, we aim to solve regional transportation issues and establish a sustainable mobility system."
