According to Yonhap News and other sources on August 16, Shin is scheduled to appear at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency at 2 p.m. on August 18 for the police’s selective forensic examination of his mobile phone.
The Security Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, which is investigating those behind the disturbance at the Western District Court, had previously seized Shin’s Galaxy mobile phone, which he had used from 2023 to May this year, after he voluntarily submitted it on the 13th.
The police plan to review text messages and call records exchanged between Shin and figures such as Pastor Jun Kwanghoon of Sarang Jeil Church and associates of former President Yoon during the impeachment proceedings against Yoon Seokyeol.
Shin is under investigation along with Pastor Jun and others on charges of incitement related to the Western District Court disturbance, including incitement to trespass on a special building and incitement to obstruct official duties by special means.
In January, ahead of the execution of an arrest warrant for former President Yoon, Shin disclosed a text message in which former Blue House Civil Society Secretary Sung Samyong requested "support." Based on this, Shin claims that the presidential office was behind the Western District Court disturbance.
Meanwhile, the special counsel investigating the 12·3 Martial Law case and related allegations of rebellion and treason has also received a complaint containing these details and obtained a copy of Shin’s mobile phone from the police, submitted voluntarily.
Shin is also scheduled to appear at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office at 9:30 a.m. on August 19 for the special counsel’s selective forensic examination of his mobile phone.
