Outrage Over Reports of Yoon Wearing Electronic Anklet and Handcuffs During Medical Treatment
"No Respect for Former Presidents? The Ultimate Political Retaliation"
"Malicious Framing With Claims of Excessive Air Conditioning and Special Visitation Privileges"
Na Kyungwon, a member of the People Power Party, expressed outrage after it was revealed that former President Yoon Sukyeol was wearing handcuffs and an electronic anklet while receiving ophthalmology treatment due to the risk of losing his eyesight.
On August 15, Na wrote on her Facebook page, "Is it appropriate to use personal restraint devices-meant for violent criminals who pose a flight risk-on a former president to this extent, and then widely publicize it through the media? Is this in any way respectful to a former president, or befitting the dignity of the Republic of Korea?" She continued, "The Democratic Party administration under Lee Jaemyung has taken its oppression of human rights and public humiliation of a former president to an extreme, framing him as a traitor. This is the ultimate form of political retaliation."
Na also stated, "According to documents submitted by the Ministry of Justice, the solitary confinement facility is only 2 pyeong in size, even smaller than previous cases." She pointed out, "Under the Democratic Party administration, there are daily claims about excessive air conditioning, special visitation privileges during detention, and malicious framing, even leading to the dismissal of the detention center chief." She added, "The pro-Lee Minister of Justice leads these measures while claiming that 'all citizens are equal before the law.' If they value 'equality before the law' so much, why do they treat President Lee Jaemyung's trial differently? This is hypocrisy-guilty if non-Lee, innocent if pro-Lee, selective justice at its worst."
Na argued, "Ultimately, they are abusing power to frame conservative figures as villains, eliminate political opponents, and complete the Democratic Party's scenario of one-party dictatorship. This is a serious matter that could escalate into an international human rights issue." She continued, "Last month, during my visit to the United States, Fred Fleitz, Vice President of the AFPI and a close aide to former President Trump, also emphasized concerns about the fairness and human rights aspects of the investigation into the former president." Na concluded, "The Lee Jaemyung Democratic Party administration must immediately stop this barbaric political retaliation and occupation force behavior, and remember that providing fair treatment to a former president in accordance with the Constitution and international human rights standards is what truly upholds the dignity of the Republic of Korea."
