Kwak Dongshin, Chairman of Hanmi Semiconductor, attended the "80th Anniversary of Liberation: The President's Invitation" event held at the Blue House on August 14 as a descendant of an independence patriot.
President Lee Jaemyung invited around 80 guests, including descendants of independence patriots and families of those whose remains are being repatriated, to a luncheon at the Blue House State Guest House to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation.
Chairman Kwak Dongshin was invited to the event as the great-grandson of Kwak Hanso, an independence patriot. Kwak Hanso, born in 1882 in Chungcheongnam-do, was an independence activist who joined the righteous army in protest against the signing of the Eulsa Treaty. He was recognized as an independence patriot and awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 2015.
Chairman Kwak Dongshin has continuously worked to carry on the spirit of his ancestor in modern times. Last year, Hanmi Semiconductor successfully repatriated an unpublished calligraphy work by Ahn Junggeun, titled "The Human Heart Changes Morning and Evening, Yet the Mountains Remain the Same Throughout the Ages," by winning it at auction from a Japanese collector. The piece is expected to be designated as a national treasure and donated to the state. He also contributed to historical preservation by donating records related to Kwak Hanso to the Independence Hall of Korea.
Founded in 1980, Hanmi Semiconductor is a semiconductor equipment company with over 320 clients worldwide. It holds a 90% global market share in the HBM3E TC bonder segment. Through a vertically integrated system that connects everything from casting and design to parts processing, software, assembly, inspection, and sales, the company is able to respond swiftly to changes in the AI semiconductor market, quickly address customer requests, and maintain a differentiated competitive edge.
