On August 14, the 11th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Park Wookeun, sentenced Park to life imprisonment for charges including murder.

Park was accused of stabbing and killing his acquaintance, identified as Mr. A (in his 60s), at A's residence in Jung-gu, Daejeon, at around 1:30 a.m. on April 4.

Earlier, on March 26, at a restaurant in Jung-gu, Daejeon, Park was also charged with special assault for striking a customer with a liquor bottle and with obstruction of business for disrupting the restaurant's operations.

This was not Park's first violent crime. In 2004, he was convicted of murdering an acquaintance in Jeonju and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. After his release, in 2022, he was brought to trial for attempted murder after wielding a weapon at an acquaintance in Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province. However, he was found guilty of special assault and sentenced to two years in prison. It has been determined that he has received criminal penalties more than 30 times since his twenties.

In April, the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office disclosed Park's personal information in accordance with the Act on the Disclosure of Personal Information of Suspects of Specific Serious Crimes.

The court stated, "The crime is particularly grave, as the defendant killed the victim simply out of anger, in a residence where the occupant's safety should be fully protected, especially during late-night hours. The victim suffered extreme pain and fear before dying, and the bereaved family has petitioned for a severe punishment for the defendant."

The court further explained, "Even during the repeat offender period, the defendant continued to commit various violent crimes, demonstrating a high risk of recidivism. The defendant exhibits pronounced antisocial tendencies and a lack of law-abiding consciousness. Therefore, it is only natural to deprive him of his freedom by isolating him from society, both to maintain public safety and order and to allow him to reflect on his actions for the remainder of his life."
