Outstanding Research in Accounting and Corporate Governance
One-Year Research Funding Provided
Jung Dojin, Professor at Chung-Ang University; Kim Beomjun, Professor at Catholic University; Kim Sehee, Assistant Professor at Chung-Ang University; and Park Sohee, Assistant Professor at Kookmin University, have been selected as scholars who have contributed to the advancement of accounting and research on corporate governance.

On August 14, Samjong KPMG announced that it held the '2025 Samjong KPMG Professor' appointment ceremony at its headquarters in the Gangnam Finance Center, Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The event was organized by the Korean Accounting Association and sponsored by Samjong KPMG.
The title of 'Distinguished Professor,' awarded to professors who have made outstanding contributions to establishing principle-based accounting and elevating the status of accounting through exceptional research and activities in accounting systems and transparency, was conferred upon Jung Dojin, Professor at the School of Business Administration at Chung-Ang University.
Professor Jung has contributed to enhancing the public interest and transparency of accounting through extensive research covering both private and public sector accounting. He laid the foundation for the adoption of IFRS by operating the Financial Supervisory Service's International Financial Reporting Standards Task Force, and led the establishment and implementation of K-IFRS through his activities on the Accounting System Review and Audit Committee of the Financial Services Commission. Additionally, as a member of the IPSAS Board and Director of the National Accounting Statistics Center, he has driven the internationalization and public sector expansion of principle-based accounting.
The title of 'Audit Committee Institute Professor (ACI Professor),' awarded to professors with outstanding research achievements in improving corporate governance and strengthening the role of audit committees, was given to Kim Beomjun, Professor in the Department of Accounting at Catholic University.
Professor Kim has conducted research across various aspects of corporate governance, including audit committees, boards of directors, executive compensation, and accounting audits. He participated in establishing the 'Audit Committee Best Practice Guidelines' of the Korea Corporate Governance Service in 2017 and has published numerous research results in SSCI and other internationally renowned academic journals. By serving as an outside director for various companies, he has bridged academia and practice, contributing to the improvement of corporate governance in Korea.
The title of 'Scholarship Professor,' awarded to emerging scholars who have published outstanding papers in the field of accounting, was given to Kim Sehee, Assistant Professor at the School of Business Administration at Chung-Ang University, and Park Sohee, Assistant Professor at the College of Business Administration at Kookmin University.
Assistant Professor Kim is actively conducting research in various fields, including capital markets, business valuation, corporate governance, and ESG. In particular, she has received academic and paper awards for her research analyzing the impact of the new External Audit Act on capital markets and the effects of sustainability report disclosures and ESG rating provision on the cost of capital. She is recognized as an emerging researcher expected to contribute to the advancement of accounting systems and transparency.
Assistant Professor Park, drawing on her experience at the Bank of Korea and startups, is conducting research in diverse areas such as financial and managerial accounting and accounting audits. She has produced outstanding research achievements published in leading domestic and international accounting journals. Recently, she has also been conducting research on corporate human resources disclosures, an area where accounting system reforms are underway globally, thereby contributing to the advancement of accounting systems.
Kyotae Kim, Chairman of Samjong KPMG, stated, "Research on accounting and corporate governance is a key factor in enhancing the trust and sustainability of the national economy," and added, "We will continue to support research for accounting system innovation, increased transparency, and the establishment of sound governance through the 'Samjong KPMG Professor' program."
Meanwhile, the 'Samjong KPMG Professor' is selected by the Korean Accounting Association in accordance with its own regulations, and Samjong KPMG provides the appointed professors with designated research funding for the coming year.
