Gwangyang City to Hold '2025 Maedolicon' Contest Until September 19

Creative Discovery of Emoticons Featuring the City’s Iconic Character
Encouraging Public Participation in the 2025 Gwangyang City Maedoli Con Contest

On August 14, Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced that it will hold the '2025 Gwangyang City Maedoli Con Contest' to increase citizens' interest and affection for its representative character 'Maedoli' and to raise its awareness.


This contest will be conducted by producing and submitting a set of 12 2D illustrations that reflect Maedoli's characteristics and personality. Entries may freely express a variety of themes, including everyday emotions and actions, as well as seasons, holidays, and anniversaries. Participants are also encouraged to incorporate Gwangyang's unique resources and cultural elements, such as plum blossoms, plums, Baegunsan Mountain, and Yi Sunshin Bridge.

Submissions must be 2D PNG files with a transparent background, sized at 360×360 pixels and with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. The works must be original creations that comply with the appearance, color, and proportion guidelines in the Maedoli design manual posted on the Gwangyang City website, and the original design files (such as ai or psd) must also be submitted.


Anyone can participate in the contest, either individually or as a team of up to four people. The submission period is from September 8 to 19. Detailed contest guidelines can be found on the notices and announcements board of the Gwangyang City Hall website.


The winning entries will be individually notified in October after an internal eligibility review and external expert evaluation, and will be announced on Gwangyang City's official social media channels. Prizes will be awarded as follows: one grand prize of 1 million won, one excellence prize of 700,000 won, and two encouragement prizes of 500,000 won each, for a total of four prizes and a combined prize pool of 2.7 million won.


A city official stated, "Maedoli is a character modeled after the region's specialty product, the plum, and has long been loved by citizens. We hope that the newly reimagined Maedoli, created by citizens, will become even more charming and come closer to the community."
