“We Will Embroider a New and Great History of Prosperity Upon the Spirit of 80 Years of Liberation”

On August 15, at 10:00 a.m., the city of Ulsan will hold the "80th Anniversary Liberation Day Celebration Ceremony" at the Grand Performance Hall of the Ulsan Culture and Arts Center.

The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, families of independence patriots, representatives from various organizations and institutions, and citizens, with a total of approximately 1,500 participants.

The event will proceed in the following order: a commemorative video marking the 80th anniversary of liberation, the national pledge, a commemorative address, congratulatory remarks, the singing of the Liberation Day song, and three cheers for independence.

In particular, to mark the 80th anniversary of liberation, a special commemorative video will be presented, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology to restore records of Ulsan's independence activists and anti-Japanese organizations, including Dr. Park Sangjin, Choi Hyeonbae, and Lee Jaerak. This video aims to deliver a meaningful message to citizens about the spirit of self-reliance and independence embodied by Ulsan's fallen patriots and national heroes.

In his congratulatory remarks, Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom stated, "Just as there can be no present without the past, we must always remember that today was made possible by the sacrifices and dedication of our ancestors 80 years ago. I hope we can reflect on the significance of the 80th anniversary of liberation, paying deep respect and tribute to the noble sacrifices of the fallen patriots and national heroes who made today's great Ulsan possible."

Additionally, the congratulatory address included the city's policy direction to develop Ulsan into the artificial intelligence (AI) capital of Korea and an AI hub city in Asia, ultimately creating a dream city where industry and culture coexist in harmony.

Prior to the main ceremony, at 9:20 a.m. on the same day, a memorial service will be held at the Ulsan Anti-Japanese Independence Movement Memorial Tower in Daldong Culture Park, Nam-gu, with about 60 participants, including members of the Liberation Association, to honor the noble spirits of the fallen patriots and national heroes.

Subsequently, at 11:30 a.m., a memorial ceremony marking the 104th anniversary of the death of Dr. Park Sangjin will be held at his birthplace in Songjeong-dong, Buk-gu, with Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, local members of the National Assembly, veterans' organizations, bereaved families, and about 200 participants in attendance.

To commemorate Liberation Day and encourage greater citizen participation and a festive atmosphere, Ulsan is also promoting a "Love the Nation, Display the Taegeukgi" campaign, as well as hosting a variety of events for the 80th anniversary, including a commemorative exhibition at the Ulsan Museum (August 12 to October 12) and the "Re-examining Ulsan's Independence Movement" seminar (scheduled for November).
