At approximately 4:55 p.m. on August 13, a man in his 60s, identified as A, who was riding an electric bicycle, was struck by a trailer making a right turn at an unsignalized three-way intersection in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam.
As a result of the accident, A sustained serious injuries and died while being transported to the hospital.
It has been reported that on this one-lane road, A attempted to overtake the vehicle from the rear right side while the trailer had briefly stopped at the intersection to make a right turn, and then collided with the rear wheel area of the trailer's cab.
At the time of the accident, the trailer driver, a man in his 60s identified as B, was neither under the influence of alcohol nor driving without a license.
The police have booked B without detention on charges of causing death by traffic accident under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
