Reflecting Local Issues and Strengthening Disaster Safety
Yang Bunam, member of the Democratic Party of Korea.
Bum Nam Yang, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker representing Gwangju Seo-gu Eul, announced on August 14 that he has secured 1.9 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to address local issues and improve disaster and safety infrastructure in the Gwangju Seo-gu Eul district.
The secured budget will be allocated as follows: 300 million KRW for safety maintenance of Jeonpyeong Lake Park facilities; 400 million KRW for the construction, expansion, and paving of a fire lane in Dongha Village; 500 million KRW for maintenance of the sewage culvert near Chipyeong Middle School and Sangmu Market; 300 million KRW for the installation of entry and exit blocking facilities to prevent river disasters at Seochangcheon; and 400 million KRW for environmental improvements at the Salgu Children’s Park in Pungam-dong.
The fire lane project in Dongha Village aims to resolve the issue of fire trucks being unable to access the area during fires or disasters, thereby securing the critical golden time for emergency response. The maintenance of the sewage culvert near Chipyeong Middle School and Sangmu Market is expected to reduce recurring flood damage during heavy rainfall and enhance drainage capacity. The installation of blocking facilities at Seochangcheon will prevent citizens from accessing the river during floods or rapid currents, thereby preventing casualties.
The improvement project at Salgu Children’s Park in Pungam-dong is expected to transform the area into a safe space for residents by upgrading children's play facilities, rest areas, and landscaping.
Representative Yang explained, "Despite the shortage of special grant funds due to tax revenue shortfalls and the early depletion of resources for nationwide flood recovery, I was able to secure the budget after continuous consultations with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to address local issues and strengthen disaster safety." He added, "With the acquisition of these special grants, urgent projects to ensure citizen safety and improve living conditions can now be carried out in a timely manner."
