President Donald Trump of the United States has announced that he will be holding discussions with European leaders two days before his summit with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
On August 13 (local time), President Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, stating, "In a short while, I will be speaking with European leaders," and added, "They are wonderful people who hope for an agreement regarding an end to the war in Ukraine."
The US-Russia summit is scheduled to take place in Alaska on August 15. President Trump's actions are being interpreted as an effort to listen to the positions of major European countries that have supported Ukraine, ahead of the summit.
Ukraine and Europe have been excluded from this summit. They are concerned about the possibility of an agreement emerging that reflects only President Putin's unilateral claims.
