Handong Global University and Pohang City Strengthen Regional Growth through HI-Based Education and Industry Collaboration

The meeting was attended by Lee Kangdeok, Mayor of Pohang (Co-Chair), Choi Doseong, President of Handong Global University (Chair of the Promotion Committee), as well as other committee members and related officials.
After Lee Jeongmin, Head of the Glocal University Project Group at Handong Global University, reported on last year's achievements, participants exchanged opinions on the 2025 action plan, key tasks, and perspectives from each institution.
Handong Global University is implementing innovative models based on its Holistic Intelligence (HI) educational philosophy, including 100% student-designed majors, a global rotation program, and an innovation semester focused on real-world contributions.
Notably, last year the university completed major projects such as jointly developing four courses with Minerva University, establishing an AI Innovation New Industry Campus, and operating five global rotation programs. It also received an A grade in the Ministry of Education's Glocal University 30 annual evaluation, demonstrating outstanding execution by fulfilling 99.47% of 187 tasks.
President Choi Doseong stated, "Handong Global University is evolving beyond university innovation to become a holistic education platform that grows together with the region," adding, "We will open the path to global education together with Pohang."
Mayor Lee Kangdeok commented, "The Glocal University forms a virtuous cycle connecting talent development, employment and entrepreneurship, and settlement," and emphasized, "The city will actively cooperate to ensure this model becomes a key to regional sustainability."
Going forward, Pohang City and Handong Global University plan to expand regionally-contributive curricula based on HI education, and to strengthen industry-academia cooperation programs to promote the joint growth of the region and industry.
