Another Controversy Ahead of Liberation Day and Korea Concert

British rock band Oasis is facing heavy criticism from Korean fans after posting a video featuring an image reminiscent of the Rising Sun flag on their official social media. With Liberation Day approaching and a concert in Korea scheduled for October, fans are expressing disappointment over what they see as a lack of courtesy and consideration.
On August 8, Oasis's official social media account posted a message and video asking fans to check out a new visual for "Morning Glory." The video showcased various images representing the 1995 release "Morning Glory," but prominently featured an image that appeared to depict the Rising Sun flag, a symbol of Japanese imperialism.
As of 2 p.m. on August 13, the post had not been deleted, nor had any apology been issued. One netizen commented, "No matter how many times I look at it, I can't understand it. If they wanted to portray the sun, they could have designed it differently," adding, "I don't know who came up with the idea, but using that element is inappropriate."
Other netizens also expressed anger, saying, "Study history before your Asia tour," and "Are you even aware that you'll be coming to Korea in two months? Delete the post and apologize."
Use of Racist Term 'Ching Chong'... Dismissive Response to Fan Criticism
Previously, Oasis member Liam Gallagher was criticized for posting the racist term "ching chong" on his social media. "Ching chong" or "ching chang chong" is a derogatory term that mocks East Asians, imitating the sound of Chinese speech in a demeaning and insulting manner.
When a fan advised Liam Gallagher that the term was racist and should not be used, Gallagher responded dismissively with "Why." As criticism intensified, Gallagher deleted the post and later apologized, saying, "It was not intentional, but if I have offended anyone, I am sorry. I love you all and do not discriminate. Peace and love to everyone."
