On August 12, Hana Financial Group announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Incheon Metropolitan City at Incheon City Hall to create jobs for seniors in the local community and support vulnerable groups.

This agreement was established to strengthen inclusive finance through public-private cooperation by promoting joint social contribution projects for the local community in partnership with local governments.

First, Hana Financial Group will implement the “Local Community Co-Growth Support Project,” which connects senior citizens with job opportunities. Hana Financial Group plans to set up meal box production facilities in spaces provided by the local government to support meal care for vulnerable groups in the community, such as elderly people living alone, people with disabilities, and children in family care. The company will create jobs by hiring local seniors for essential roles in facility operation, including cooking, packaging, and delivery of meals.

In addition, the group expects to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by selecting local small businesses as contractors for facility construction and as suppliers of food ingredients and agricultural products needed for meal box production.

Notably, starting with Incheon, Hana Financial Group plans to open a total of three meal box production facilities this year, including locations in Gwangju and Busan. Through these facilities, the group aims to provide meal care to approximately 450 vulnerable individuals every week and create jobs for seniors, thereby expanding co-growth with the local community.

Hana Financial Group will also implement a support program for “recycling workers” (elderly people who collect recyclable paper), who are exposed to hazardous working environments such as roads and extreme heat.

The group will select 600 elderly recycling workers through local governments nationwide and provide 600 lightweight handcarts that are legally permitted to be used on sidewalks under the Road Traffic Act. Additionally, 30 electric carts will be provided to local governments for seniors to use on a rental basis.

Furthermore, 600 “happiness boxes” containing items such as cooling sleeves, functional shirts, safety vests for accident prevention, and reflective tape will be distributed to help prevent heat-related illnesses and accidents involving vehicles during the summer. In Incheon, specifically, 80 lightweight handcarts and 80 happiness boxes will be delivered to help protect the health and safety of elderly recycling workers in the region.

Jinwoo Kim, Vice President of Hana Bank Central Sales Group, who attended the agreement ceremony, stated, “Through this public-private partnership project, we expect not only to support the economic independence of seniors but also to enhance the welfare of vulnerable groups such as elderly people living alone. Hana Financial Group will continue to pursue various and differentiated social contribution projects to invigorate local communities.”

Meanwhile, Hana Financial Group continues to strengthen inclusive finance by carrying out various ESG initiatives for job creation and co-growth in the community, such as the “Hana Power On Second Life” program, which supports reemployment and entrepreneurship for seniors and mid-career professionals, and the “Hana Power On Innovation Company Internship” program, which expands job opportunities by matching internships for employment-vulnerable groups, including social innovation companies, people with disabilities, new seniors, and young people.
