On August 12, Gokseong County (Governor Cho Sangrae) held a briefing session for the '2026 Landscape Conservation Direct Payment Program' at the Agricultural Technology Center Eoul Madang.

Approximately 50 people attended the session, including the chairpersons of the landscape promotion committees from 38 districts that applied through the demand survey conducted from March to May, town and township officials, and representatives from the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service responsible for monitoring project implementation.

The Landscape Conservation Direct Payment Program is a project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs that aims to form, maintain, and improve rural and semi-rural landscapes by cultivating landscape crops unique to each region. The program also seeks to revitalize the local economy by linking these landscapes to regional festivals and rural tourism.

To apply for the program, each district must meet the collective cultivation requirements of at least 2 hectares of landscape crops and 10 hectares of semi-landscape crops. Currently, the county is promoting the project by cultivating winter landscape crops such as hairy vetch and Chinese milk vetch in each district.

During the session, the step-by-step implementation procedures and important considerations for the Landscape Conservation Direct Payment Program were explained. In addition, a consultative body consisting of Gokseong County, the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, committee chairpersons, and landscape experts reviewed each district to verify whether the 38 districts that participated in the previous demand survey met the collective cultivation requirements for the application farmland.

The county plans to make the final selection of districts that meet the collective cultivation standards and qualify for both farmer and farmland eligibility, once the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs finalizes the project area at the end of this month.

A county official stated, "We will select districts in line with the goal of promoting urban-rural exchanges through regional festivals and rural tourism, increase farm household income through the Landscape Conservation Direct Payment Program, and provide attractions for tourists to help boost the local economy."
