Overcoming the Limitations of Manual Inspections
Busan Port Authority (BPA), led by President Song Sangkeun, has enhanced both the speed and precision of its port facility safety inspections by deploying digital technologies such as AI and autonomous drones.
In accordance with the Special Act on the Safety and Maintenance of Facilities, BPA is currently conducting detailed safety inspections of port facilities for 2025. As the number of aging facilities that have been in operation for over 30 years is rapidly increasing, it is crucial to identify structural risk factors in advance and ensure safety through immediate repairs.
This inspection utilized autonomous drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras. These drones captured high-resolution images of building exteriors that are difficult for humans to access, detecting abnormal signs such as heat loss.
The collected data was first analyzed by AI, then cross-verified with results from manual inspections to minimize errors. BPA explained that this approach not only addresses the limitations of traditional manpower-based inspections but also improves overall efficiency.
Song Sangkeun, President of BPA, stated, "Based on the results of this inspection, we will expand the application of digital technologies and do our utmost to ensure the safety of aging port facilities."
