Mayor Lee Pilhyung Holds Solo Protest at Cheongnyangni Station
Calls for Swift Construction of the Cheongnyangni?Wangsimni Single-Track Railway Section
Lee Pilhyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District in Seoul, held a one-person picket protest at Cheongnyangni Station Square on the 12th, urging for the swift construction of an approximately 1km single-track railway section between Cheongnyangni Station and Wangsimni Station.
On this day, Mayor Lee held a picket for one hour starting at 7:30 a.m. at Cheongnyangni Station Square and in front of the entrance to the Suin-Bundang Line. The solo protest was carried out in response to the severe inconvenience faced by residents traveling to the Gangnam area and reflected the strong desire of local residents for the expedited construction of the Suin-Bundang Line single-track railway.

Mayor Lee stated, "The construction of a single-track railway for the Suin-Bundang Line departing from Cheongnyangni Station, which serves as a key hub in the northeastern metropolitan area, is a project vital to our district," adding, "I will do my utmost to ensure its prompt and proper implementation."
The Suin-Bundang Line connects Cheongnyangni Station to Wangsimni Station?which offers transfers to lines 2 and 5?in just one stop, and to Gangnam-gu Office Station and Seolleung Station in only four to six stops. Despite this proximity, the line operates only nine times on weekdays and five times on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, resulting in long intervals between trains and significant inconvenience for passengers.
To normalize the construction of the Suin-Bundang Line single-track railway, Dongdaemun District is conducting its own feasibility study and has signed a memorandum of understanding with Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province, dedicating all available administrative support to fulfill this long-standing wish of local residents.
In particular, the results of the district's own feasibility study, completed in June, confirmed improved economic viability compared to previous studies, and the district continues to engage in ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea National Railway.
