"Additional On-Site Forensic Examinations Planned"
The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the cause of the apartment fire in Daegu that resulted in the deaths of three members of a family. Authorities have stated that they are considering various possibilities, including arson, as part of their investigation.
On the morning of August 11, the Daegu Dongbu Police Station, together with the National Forensic Service, conducted autopsies on the deceased mother, identified as Ms. A, and her teenage children, a son referred to as B and a daughter referred to as C, in order to determine the cause of death.
The police announced that they plan to keep all possibilities open in determining whether the deaths were caused by the fire or by other factors such as external force. They will also check for signs of airway injury or poisoning by toxic substances.
The fire broke out at around 3:35 a.m. the previous day in an 11th-floor unit of an apartment building in Dong-gu, Daegu. Although the fire was extinguished in 19 minutes, the three family members were found dead. Ms. A was discovered after having fallen into the apartment flower bed, while B and C were found lying in the master bedroom. Forensic analysis revealed four separate points of origin for the fire in the master bedroom and living room, and a large quantity of candles and matches was also found. Dozens of books tied with string and other flammable materials were located near the ignition points inside the apartment. It was also determined that the front door had been blocked with furniture and other items.
According to the police, there were no signs of forced entry by an outsider. The father, identified as Mr. D, was confirmed to have been at work at the time of the fire. Authorities plan to conduct additional on-site forensic examinations to determine the exact cause of the fire.
