Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President: Cho Ikmoon) announced on August 11 that it recently held a "Train Operator Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Competition" at the Yongsan Vehicle Base in Dong-gu to strengthen the emergency response skills of on-site workers during emergencies.

The competition simulated sudden emergency situations inside subway trains. Four top train operators, selected through preliminary rounds held over the past five months, participated to demonstrate and compete in their ability to quickly and effectively save citizens’ lives in critical situations.

For the judging, Professor Kim Yoojeong from Chosun Nursing College participated as an external expert, enhancing the professionalism of the event. Manager Kim Dongin, who received high marks for quickly recognizing the patient’s condition and performing accurate chest compressions, was awarded the top prize. Assistant Manager Han Sangsoo, who demonstrated skilled use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), received the excellence award.

Since 2021, all train operators have completed specialized CPR training to prepare for unusual situations that may occur during operations. Every year, the corporation invites experts to conduct simulation drills, making active efforts to improve on-site response capabilities.

A corporation official stated, "We are thoroughly preparing for unusual situations that may arise due to heat waves and various heat-related illnesses," and added, "We will do our utmost to ensure the safety of citizens at all customer-facing sites."
