Opening September 6 at Rezone Hongdae
Interactive Horror Experience for Visitors
Mission to Seal Yokai from Traditional Folklore
Plans for Diverse IP Expansion
'Joseon Yokai War,' which reimagines 'yokai'?supernatural creatures from Joseon-era folklore and oral tradition?as an immersive horror experience and interactive story, will open on September 6 at Rezone Hongdae in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
The exhibition begins with the premise that yokai, which were sealed away 600 years ago in Seoi Palace on the west side of the capital during the second year of King Sejong's reign and in Yeonnam-dong to its south, have been unleashed once again. Visitors participate in the exhibition by taking on missions to confront and seal the yokai themselves.
The exhibition brings traditional yokai such as 'Singiwon-yo,' 'Eoduksini,' 'Jihaguk Daejeok,' 'Susalgwi,' and 'Dueoksini' to life through immersive sets, video, sound, lighting, and interactive effects. Each area is designed with an immersive story and mission, allowing visitors to directly participate in sealing the yokai.
Starcolink, the exhibition's organizer, plans to diversify 'Joseon Yokai War' into games, webtoons, and animation in the future. Drawing on years of content development and publishing experience in domestic and international gaming markets?including with the online and mobile game 'Yulhyulgangho'?the company intends to reinterpret yokai from traditional folklore in a modern way and introduce them to the global market.
During the exhibition period, a 'Korean Yokai Illustration Contest' will also be held. Selected works will be displayed in the exhibition hall, and some will be produced and sold as merchandise.
A Starcolink representative stated, "This immersive exhibition, based on traditional Korean folklore, will offer a unique horror experience for both Koreans and foreigners. Through various marketing, merchandise, and publishing projects linked to the exhibition, we will build a universe and expand the Korean yokai IP into webtoons, animation, and games."
