With this board approval, Yongin FC now only needs the final resolution at the league's general assembly, the last step required for official participation in the 2026 K League 2 season, scheduled for January next year.

Previously, the city submitted its application to the Korea Professional Football League in June, outlining its plan to use Mir Stadium as its home ground and to participate in the 2026 K League 2 season.

During the board meeting, the league evaluated Yongin City's population size, urban growth potential, stadium infrastructure, corporate establishment status, and the presence of a U-18 youth team, comprehensively assessing the club's preparations before approving the membership application.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "It is significant that the establishment of the citizen professional football club, which 1.1 million citizens have been waiting for, is now virtually confirmed," adding, "We will ensure that the remaining preparations for the club's establishment proceed smoothly, with the club's management team at the center."

Yongin FC, led by General Manager Kim Jinhyung, Technical Director Lee Donggook, and Head Coach Choi Yoonkyum, is accelerating efforts to organize the club and assemble the squad, aiming to participate in the 2026 K League 2 season.
