Names for 45 Stations Approved...
Final Announcement Scheduled for September
The names for 45 stations on Daejeon's Urban Railway Line 2 tram route passed the main deliberation of the Daejeon City Place Name Committee on August 7.
Following this approval, the city plans to request Romanized and Chinese character versions from the National Institute of the Korean Language and will finalize and announce the official names in September.
This naming initiative was undertaken to systematically manage urban railway facilities and enhance convenience for citizens. Since the beginning of this year, the city has prioritized names that reflect local history and identity, based on naming standards established in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
Transfer stations will retain their existing names to prevent confusion among users. In addition, major public facilities such as universities and hospitals will be included in station names to improve intuitive recognition for citizens.
Based on these standards, the city drafted the naming plan and reviewed its appropriateness through prior consultation with the Place Name Committee members. The main deliberation followed a process that included collecting citizen feedback both online and offline, reviews by place name committees in all five districts, and hearing opinions from the city council.
During the deliberation, the committee, chaired by the Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, considered factors such as local recognition, accessibility, public institutions, and tourism resources. As a result, station names reflecting local identity were selected through in-depth discussions.
Choi Jongsoo, Director of Daejeon Urban Railway Construction Bureau, stated, "Since the tram will be a part of citizens' daily transportation, the station names have been designed so that citizens can easily recognize and use them. We will continue to do our best to ensure the safe and convenient use of the tram, including the stations."
The Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 tram will circulate through five districts?Dong-gu, Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Yuseong-gu, and Daedeok-gu. The project will include a total length of 38.8 kilometers, 45 stations, and one train depot. Construction is underway with the goal of opening in December 2028.
