Comprehensive Inspections of All Industrial and Subcontracted Worksites in the District
Kim Mikyung, District Mayor: "Mobilizing All Resources to Prevent Major Accidents"
On August 11, Eunpyeong District in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Mikyung) announced that it has urgently formed a "Safety Inspection Task Force (TF)" directly under the district mayor to prevent major accidents, and will fully implement a comprehensive safety management system targeting all industrial sites within the district.
At an emergency executive meeting held on August 5, Kim Mikyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, instructed, "Form a TF directly under the district mayor for all industrial sites in the district, and mobilize all available administrative resources to establish thorough preventive measures." Subsequently, a second countermeasure meeting was held on August 8, and the operation of the TF was officially launched.
The operation of this Safety Inspection TF is a measure to strengthen safety management with a focus on prevention, aiming to preemptively eliminate safety hazards and prevent major accidents and other safety incidents. Comprehensive safety inspections will be conducted on safety-vulnerable facilities such as industrial sites, district-operated workplaces, and subcontracted worksites.
The TF is composed of a General Support Team, a Safety Inspection Team, and an Inspection Support Team, with the district mayor directly overseeing the overall command. The main initiatives include emergency safety inspections at industrial sites, inspections of safety hazards at district-operated and subcontracted worksites, and education for the prevention of major accidents.
The emergency safety inspections at industrial sites will be conducted over a two-month period from this month to next month, focusing on sites where safety hazards are likely to occur. The district will prioritize inspections of district-operated and subcontracted worksites that handle tasks requiring physical and life protection, as well as those dealing with machinery and equipment, which are particularly vulnerable to major accidents.
At the end of this month, education for the prevention of major accidents will also be held. The training will be provided to staff in charge of departments outsourced to private entities and employees of commissioned agencies, focusing on mandatory safety requirements at industrial sites and practical training based on real-life cases. Eunpyeong District plans to expand safety education to all public officials in the future.
Mayor Kim Mikyung stated, "Safety is an absolute value that can never be compromised," and emphasized, "We will mobilize all available administrative resources with a determination to not tolerate even a single fatal accident."
