The fire authorities issued Level 1 of the emergency response at 8:23 a.m. and began firefighting operations.
According to the fire authorities, the fire started at a multi-building, single-story steel structure factory. It began in an outdoor storage area of about 330 square meters and spread after burning two factory buildings, eventually reaching a total of five buildings. So far, it is believed that some personnel managed to evacuate on their own, but it has not yet been confirmed whether there are any casualties inside.
The fire authorities have deployed 28 pieces of equipment, including fire trucks, and 51 personnel to contain the fire. They have requested a power cutoff from Korea Electric Power Corporation and asked Yangju City Hall for excavator support.
The authorities are making every effort to prevent the fire from spreading further and to rescue any people who may be trapped. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under investigation.
