At the Police Station, He Stated: "I Wanted the Beatings to Stop"

In Japan, a man in his 70s was apprehended by police on charges of attempting to kill his son, and the bruises on his face, captured by media cameras, have drawn significant attention to the case locally. Notably, after turning himself in to the police, the man reportedly stated, "I wanted to escape my son's violence." On August 5, Fuji TV and FNN reported that a man in his 70s, identified as Mr. A, was arrested by police for attempting to kill his son, Mr. B, who is in his 50s, with a weapon. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on August 3 at a residence in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture.

According to the police investigation, Mr. A became enraged during an argument with Mr. B and stabbed him two to three times with a weapon found in the house. Mr. B was transported to the hospital in an unconscious state, but has since regained consciousness and is reportedly not in life-threatening condition. Immediately after the crime, Mr. A called the police to turn himself in, and responding officers arrested him at the scene. During police questioning, he reportedly stated, "I wanted my son to stop hitting me. I could no longer endure the violence."

On the morning of August 4, the day after the incident, at around 9:30 a.m., Mr. A appeared in front of reporters. Although he covered his face with a mask, deep bruises were clearly visible around his eyes and nose. In particular, his right eye was so swollen that he could not open it properly. Local police are focusing on the possibility that Mr. A may have suffered prolonged abuse at the hands of his son, Mr. B, and are investigating the exact motive and background of the conflict.

Meanwhile, many Japanese netizens who learned about the case have expressed support for Mr. A, saying, "It is the son, not the father, who should be sent to prison." Other comments included, "The father is innocent," "It's too horrible to watch," "Prison would actually be safer," "The father is innocent by reason of self-defense," and "Just looking at the bruises on his face, you can tell how much he suffered."
