Police: "Plan to Verify the Facts"
The police have launched an investigation after receiving a report that the owner of a fried chicken restaurant was assaulted by a customer for displaying a message commemorating the Sewol ferry disaster on the store's electronic signboard.
According to Yonhap News and other sources on August 7, a report was filed with the police stating that at around 11:00 p.m. on July 28, the owner of a franchise fried chicken restaurant in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, a man in his 50s identified as A, was assaulted by a customer, a man in his 40s identified as B.
It was reported that A claimed to have been assaulted during an argument over the commemorative message for the Sewol ferry disaster that was displayed on the store's signboard. A is said to have suffered a closed orbital fracture and a cheek abrasion as a result of the assault.
Previously, A drew attention online after displaying messages on the store's signboard celebrating the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol and the election of President Lee Jaemyung, which led the franchise headquarters to notify A of the termination of the franchise agreement. After the controversy spread to the political arena, the headquarters eventually withdrew the termination notice.
A police official stated, "We plan to investigate both the suspect and the victim to verify the facts of the case."
